Senate Republican Leadership

Senate Republican leadership is elected by the Republican conference at the beginning of each new Congress. The Senate Majority Leader serves as the party’s chief spokesman and strategist, managing floor activity, coordinating committee assignments, and representing the conference in negotiations with the opposing party and the White House.

How Senate Republican leadership works

The Whip is responsible for counting votes and ensuring party discipline on key legislation. The Conference Chairman presides over weekly caucus meetings, while the Policy Committee Chairman develops and communicates the party’s legislative agenda. When Republicans hold the majority, the leader controls the Senate’s legislative calendar and floor schedule. When in the minority, leadership focuses on shaping debate, offering amendments, and providing oversight of the majority’s agenda.


House Republican Leadership

House Republican leadership is elected by the Republican conference at the beginning of each new Congress. The Speaker of the House is elected by a majority vote of the full House of Representatives and is second in the line of presidential succession after the Vice President.

How House Republican leadership works

The NRCC Chairman leads the party’s efforts to elect and re-elect Republican members to the House.
