House Passes Resolution Condemning Socialism, 192 Democrats Vote No

The House passed H. Res. 1490 on September 1, 2026, a resolution formally condemning socialism in all its forms and reaffirming the chamber’s commitment to free and secure elections for American citizens. The measure was led by Rep. Jeff Crank (R-Colo.).

The resolution formally condemns the Democratic Socialists of America, rejects policies that expand government control over individual life, and calls for passage of the SAVE America Act to strengthen election security.

192 Democrats voted against the measure. Crank noted the shift in his party’s posture, saying the resolution “would have passed unanimously 10-15 years ago.”

Rep. Lisa McClain (R-Mich.) framed the vote in terms of foundational American principles. “America was built on the belief that people should control their own lives, their own property, and their own future,” she said.

The lopsided opposition from House Democrats drew immediate attention from Republican leadership, who pointed to the vote as a clear illustration of how far left the Democratic caucus has moved on questions of economic freedom and individual liberty.
