McClain Cites $22,000 Take-Home Pay Estimate
Chairwoman Lisa McClain released a statement October 5, 2026, citing a Council of Economic Advisers analysis of seven policies in the DSA’s 2026 Workers Deserve More agenda.
The analysis estimated that the policies would add nearly $49 trillion to federal deficits between 2027 and 2036. It placed the estimated household cost at roughly $355,000 over a decade.
According to the estimates cited by McClain, financing that amount through taxes would lower the average worker’s annual take-home pay by approximately $22,000. The analysis also projected that 30-year mortgage rates could rise above 12%.
“Communists love promising Americans everything for free,” McClain said. “What they leave out is that you are the one who gets stuck with the bill.”
McClain said the projected deficit increase would impose costs through reduced pay, higher borrowing costs, or obligations passed to future generations.
The statement centers on the fiscal effects identified in the analysis, including the potential consequences for workers’ paychecks and household borrowing.
